Con motivo de la Semana Santa, la Dirección de Turismo Municipal, a través de visitas guiadas, acercará la historia de templos, campanarios y de la orden jesuita que formó el pensamiento de Francisco, el papa argentino.

A poco de la fundación de la ciudad de Córdoba llegaron de manera paulatina órdenes religiosas que forjaron la herencia espiritual. El mapa urbano local era muy pequeño y la cantidad de habitantes, reducida. En ese núcleo de adelantados y valientes, a principios del siglo XVI, los jesuitas iniciaron su venerable transformación. La empresa religiosa ameritó la construcción de una Residencia Jesuítica, un Noviciado y el Colegio Máximo, de sólo seis profesores para el dictado de teología, latín y artes. La “Docta” surgía así al mismo tiempo que la Córdoba de las iglesias y campanas, unidas entre sí por la historia de la Compañía de Jesús.

En 1613, en una reunión realizada en Córdoba, el provincial de la orden, Diego de Torres, solicitó al obispo Fernando de Trejo y Sanabria un desafío aún mayor: convertir el Colegio Máximo en Universidad, que se convirtió en una de las casas de estudio más antiguas de Sudamérica. La muerte del obispo Trejo dejó a los jesuitas sin parte del dinero necesario para continuar la obra y fue la Compañía la que sostuvo económicamente el enorme proyecto.

Nacieron de ese modo las estancias jesuíticas, ubicadas en tierras del interior de la actual provincia de Córdoba, establecimientos rurales de impronta fabril donde la orden obtenía los recursos y productos necesarios para la subsistencia.

Una tras otra empezaron a producir: en 1616 comenzó a funcionar la estancia de Caroya, en 1618 la de Jesús María, en 1622 Santa Catalina, en 1643 Alta Gracia, en 1687 La Candelaria y en 1725, San Ignacio de los Ejercicios, de la que no se conservan casi vestigios.

Iglesia de la Compañía

A mediados del siglo XVII, la Compañía inició la construcción de su iglesia, ubicada en la Manzana Jesuítica de Córdoba que en 2000 fue declarada por la Unesco Patrimonio de la Humanidad.

La delicada obra de la iglesia sorprende por su sencillez exterior y por la majestuosa decoración interior que la convirtió en una joya de la arquitectura. La bóveda fue ejecutada completamente en madera, sin clavos de metal, decorada por un friso que muestra pinturas de mártires jesuitas. El retablo, de cautivante belleza, también fue construido en madera, dorado a la hoja, con las imágenes de San Ignacio de Loyola, San Francisco Javier y otros santos de la Compañía de Jesús.

Un párrafo aparte merece la Capilla Doméstica, considerada la capilla privada de los padres jesuitas, levantada íntegramente en piedra y unida con cal. Su bóveda de madera, lleva cañas tacuara unidas con tientos y el retablo de cedro está tallado en su totalidad, dorado y policromado, y prodiga una maravilla visual que se contempla en la actualidad.

Como Patrimonio de la Humanidad, el legado jesuita de Córdoba adquirió un nuevo significado: el Papa Francisco vivió en la Residencia de la Compañía en 1992, donde se desempeñó como director espiritual y confesor de la orden fundada por San Ignacio de Loyola. Hoy se pueden reconstruir sus pasos a través de una visita guiada gratuita inspirada en el libro Aquel Francisco, de los periodistas Javier Cámara y Sebastián Pfaffen, que será la propuesta central de la próxima Semana Santa.

A la visita, se sumarán los tesoros de la Manzana Franciscana, un recorrido por la iglesia María Auxiliadora y la basílica de la Merced y el ascenso al Campanario de la Catedral, que el año pasado atrapó la atención de cordobeses y turistas.

Lo que hay que saber

Visita. Los jesuitas en Córdoba. El papa Francisco, su paso por la ciudad.

Cuándo: miércoles 1, jueves 2, lunes 6, miércoles 8, martes 14 y jueves 16, a las 10.

Partida: Oficina de Informes del Cabildo Histórico.

Recorrido: basílica de la Merced, iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús y Capilla Doméstica.

Costo: gratuito.

Visita. Tesoros en la manzana franciscana.

Cuándo: viernes 3 a las 10.

Partida: atrio Iglesia San Francisco (Entre Ríos y Buenos Aires).

Recorrido: iglesia San Francisco.

Costo: $ 10.

Visita. Iglesia María Auxiliadora.

Cuándo: martes 7 a las 10 y jueves 9 a las 17.

Partida: atrio de la iglesia (avenida Colón esquina Rodríguez Peña).

Recorrido: iglesia María Auxiliadora.

Costo: gratuito.

Visita. Basílica de la Merced. 

Cuándo: sábado 4 a las 10.

Partida: atrio de la basílica de Nuestra Señora de la Merced (25 de Mayo y Rivadavia).

Recorrido: Iglesia.

Costo: gratuito.

Visita. Iglesia Catedral.

Cuándo: domingo 5, 12, 19 y 26 a las 10.

Partida: Oficina de Informes del Cabildo Histórico.

Recorrido: Campanario norte de la iglesia Catedral.
