La advocación de María como “auxilio de los cristianos” es venerada en la parroquia cordobesa que impone su admirable arquitectura, obra de la Orden Salesiana. La Dirección de Turismo Municipal invita a conocerla en una visita guiada gratuita.

tre las distintas advocaciones de la Virgen se encuentra la de María como “auxilio de los cristianos”, título que originariamente resaltó la imagen de la madre de Jesús como defensora física y espiritual de los primeros cristianos que fueron perseguidos y más tarde, de los soldados que participaron de las cruzadas.

Fue el papa Pío V, en el siglo XVI, quien instruyó a los cristianos en el rezo del rosario ante la inminente batalla de Lepanto y cumplida la victoria, concibió la fiesta dedicada a la Virgen de las Victorias con el título “auxilio de los cristianos”.

Pero recién con la labor de San Juan Bosco quien modificó el sustento de la imagen de María como auxilio, al entenderla ya no desde una perspectiva militar, sino como la gran mediadora de la humanidad en general y como la gran artífice de la educación de los jóvenes, en particular.

La gigantesca obra educativa y apostólica de los salesianos de Don Bosco tuvo a la Virgen Auxiliadora como la estrella de su norte a partir de 1860, ya que él mismo relató que fue María quien le manifestó su voluntad de que se le construyera un templo con ese nombre.

La Virgen tuvo su casa finalmente en el barrio de Valdocco, en Turín, la Basílica de María Auxiliadora, donde puede observarse la imagen que se repitió en todo el mundo con la expansión de la obra salesiana: la Virgen Reina con el Niño en su mano izquierda y un cetro en la derecha, venerada por los 12 apóstoles, santos y ángeles. Bajo su manto, eligió reposar también Don Bosco, ya que sus restos descansan en la basílica que construyó para ella.

En Córdoba
La congregación salesiana se extendió especialmente en Argentina con su propuesta educadora. El Colegio Pío X y la parroquia dedicada a María Auxiliadora fueron las primeras de sus obras en la ciudad de Córdoba, a partir de las cuales continuaron muchas otras en la provincia.

La imponente fachada de la iglesia, erigida sobre la avenida Colón, da idea de lo que supuso la construcción del gigantesco edificio de 1.600 metros cuadrados, obra del arquitecto y presbítero José Vespigiani, iniciada en 1925. La construcción demandó décadas y por esa razón su inauguración fue realizada por etapas. La cripta fue terminada aproximadamente en 1928 y el templo superior fue bendecido en 1971.

La nave central posee 66 metros de largo y 26 metros de alto, similar a la altura de las catedrales europeas, por caso, a la iglesia de Nôtre Dame en París. Tres grandes torres se yerguen hacia el cielo cordobés y la mayor alcanza 53 metros.

En esta postal maravillosa de la obra de Don Bosco, María Auxiliadora reina en lo alto del frontis y bendice el paso de los transeúntes hacia Plaza Colón. Una visita guiada gratuita de la Dirección de Turismo Municipal invita a conocerla.
